This site will provide you with information about the Handy Van Service.  If you can’t find what you are looking for, please let us know. This will help us improve the site.

The Handy Van Service is a not-for-profit service carrying out small repairs and minor adaptations for more vulnerable members of the community.  We undertake a variety of repairs and adaptations, but we do not offer a gardening or decorating service.

Please note, this service is only available to people living in the Horsham District.

 Latest:
Thanks to a £2,000 grant from Sussex Police, the Handy Van service is offering a one-off grass cutting and shrub trimming service, for a temporary period, for people:

• who are going in to hospital
• who have just come out of hospital
• whose usual gardener is on holiday/unwell
• who usually do it themselves but are currently unwell

Primarily this is to deter burglars who are attracted by an unkempt garden, and is meant as a stop-gap until the client can either continue doing it themselves, or their usual gardener returns, therefore we will not be able to carry out any other gardening jobs including edging lawns, weeding/weed killing etc. And we cannot take any clippings or cuttings away, but will leave them neatly in an area of the clients choice.

The charges are around:

£11 for small jobs
£20 for medium size
£30 for large jobs

We will carry out a free assessment with the client or their representative to determine the exact cost.

Our lawn mower and hedge trimmer are electric, therefore we will need access to a power supply.

As well as this new service, clients can continue to contact us on 01403 226005 for all their usual requirements such as tap washers, putting up curtain tracks, grab rails, assembling flat pack furniture, clearing gutters etc. etc.

Handy Van success continues with 4000th customer

Mr and Mrs Edwards of Fabians Way in Henfield became the 4000 th customers of the community Handy Van service on 2 May 2008. The service operates in partnership with Saxon Weald, Horsham District Council, Age Concern and the Horsham District Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

The couple, who are both in their 60s, were presented with a bouquet of flowers and had their job done free of charge to mark the occasion.
